Nanette Watts
Biography
Nanette was born in Kentucky and raised in New
York. She graduated from New York University with a degree in
Special Education. Nanette went on to pursue graduate studies at
the University of Massachusetts earning a Masters in Educational
Administration. A lover of the arts and dance, she studied jazz and
modern dance at New York University, Henry Le Tang Dance Studio, the
Manhattan School of Dance, and Gregg Burgess Dance Studio.
Additionally, Nanette studied theater under the direction of Judy
Ridenhower and Voice under Dr. Stanley Ralph. Nanette has shared
the dance floor with the late Gregory Hines and Khandi Alexander.
Mrs. Watts has had a colorful career as a
teacher, model, make-up artist, talk show host, police officer, rape
counselor, and dance instructor. She is currently the principal at
Phillis Wheatley Elementary School in Dallas, Texas. Nanette has
been nominated for Who’s Who Among American Educators,
Who’s Who Among American Business Women, and Who’s Who Among Female
Executives.
Nanette won her first pageant at the age of
five. She competed in her second pageant at the age of 15 and has
been hooked ever since. She has competed in over forty pageants and
has held over thirty titles including local, state, and national
titles for the Miss USA, Miss America, Mrs. America, Black Teenage
World, US Sophisticate, and Plus America Systems.
Ms. Watts is the founder and primary
consultant for Pageants Unlimited Plus (Pageant Consulting,
Directing, and Marketing). Since 1993, Nanette’s coaching has led
many young women and men to pageant victory. She has produced
winners from the National American Miss, Junior Miss, Miss Texas
USA, Miss Teen Texas USA, Black teenage World, American COED,
Talent America, Dallas USA, US Sophisticate, Plus America, DC USA,
and Miss USA Systems. She has served as a judge for several local
and state pageants including the Miss USA, Cinderella, Gingerbread,
and All American Pageant Systems.
Nanette has been the Executive Director of the
Texas Plus America Pageant for three years. With her expertise in
communication skills, stage presentation, and competition wardrobe
selection, five of Nanette’s Texas Plus America state queens have
gone on to win national Plus America titles and three of her state
queens were named runner-ups. Beginning with Nanette’s personal
victory in 2004, Texas claimed 5 consecutive wins at the national
Plus America Pageant.
She has held numerous pageant titles but
Nanette is most proud of the title of Mrs. Vernon Earl Watts.
Nanette and Vernon have been happily married for eight years.
