Ms. Oklahoma Attends Charity Event!

Joyce Lewis made an appearance on May 9, 2008 for the Central Oklahoma Alzheimer's Associations "A Masque in Black & White" themed annual gala at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel. This event raised a record breaking amount of over $200,000.00 to go towards all programs offered by the Alzheimer's Association, including caregiver counseling, support groups and so many more. There are more than 70,000 Oklahomans live with Alzheimer's, with someone developing the disease every 71 seconds. New Mrs. Louisiana Plus America Crowned!

Lori Adams has been crowned the new Mrs. Louisiana Plus America.  Erin Littell was crowned in Metairie, Louisiana in April but has resigned her title secondary to an illness in her family.  She will return to compete again in the 2009 Miss Louisiana Plus America Pageant.  MPA wishes her the best during this difficult time.

Stepping into her shoes is Mrs. Lori Adams.  She will be representing Louisiana in the Miss Plus America Pageant in July.  Congratulations Lori!

Miss Washington Helps Support WWEE!

On Thursday, April 3, 2008 Latasha Haskins attended WWEE’s (www.wwee.org) annual King County Benefit Breakfast at the Spirit of Washington Event Center in Renton, WA!  She has chosen to endorse, promote, invest in and volunteer with this organization.  They have been helping women achieve self-sufficiency for 25 years and they hold an 88% success rate!  Latasha shares a parallel vision with WWEE and looks forward to serving them in any capacity possible!

Mrs. Wyoming Supports Big Brothers Big Sisters!

Brandy Nash is pictured with her "little sister" from the Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization.  She helped others and brought awareness to this charity at the local health fair.  she was also called to helped draw names for another booth having a drawing.

Ms Washington Plus America Emcees Youth Program!

It seems more youth are involved as each individual state is targeting the "young person's vote" as the turning point in the presidential election. Deontrae Sherrard was fortunate enough to be selected to emcee an event in Washington State called "The African American Legislative Day 2008 Youth Program". Deontrae's platform is "Supporting Our Youth By Any Means Necessary", which allows her an opportunity to directly influence youth thru motivational speaking, attending forum in support of the youth, mentoring, tutoring etc. Congratulations Deontrae!  Click here to see photos of Deontrae at the event.

Miss Plus America Lifetime Host of Online Radio Talk Show!

Chenese Lewis will be hosting "PLUS Model Radio". This online talk radio show will cover everything for curvy women. Each show will inform and educate listeners about the plus modeling and fashion industry, spotlight industry professionals as well as promote upcoming events and projects for curvy women!  The show will premiere here on Monday, March 17, 2008, 8 CST/9 EST.  Way to go Chenese!  Congratulations!

Miss Illinois Engaged!

Nikeya Green was ambushed by her fiancé with a surprise trip to her hometown to visit her family.  While there, he got down on one knee and pulled out a "ring-pop" (a popsicle that you can wear - made for kids)  Of course, Nikeya broke out in hysterical laughter and it was then that he pulled out the real ring and made a proper proposal.  *How romantic is that?*  No date has been set but as soon as there is, it will be posted on the news page!  Congratulations Nikeya!

Miss Arkansas Attends Ebony Magazine Fashion Show!

Krystal James made an appearance February 27, 2008 at the Ebony Magazine 50th Annual Fashion Show at the Pine Bluff Convention Center in Pine Bluff, AR. The Fashion Show was sponsored by the college fraternity Omega Psi Phi, Inc. and began  at 7:30 pm.  It featured clothing from the 1950's to present day. The clothing ranged from evening gowns, party wear to street attire.  She says the best part was watching the full figured models work the runway. It was a very elegant show.

It is with deep regret that I announce the passing of our Louisiana State Director Debra Balsamo. Our hearts go out to her family.  Recently, Debra's daughter and Louisiana Co-Director, Shaylinn has just given birth to a baby girl.. This loss must be particularly difficult for Shaylinn.

Shaylinn Balsamo gave birth to a beautiful baby girl Monday, November 6, 2007.  Tyla Lynn Trusty was born at  8:46 PM. She weighed 6 lbs and 4.6 oz and was 19" long.  Congratulations Shaylinn!

Congratulations To MPA's First Bride!

Deidra Foley, 2004 Miss Plus America and reigning Miss Plus America Ambassador, gave her hand in marriage to Mr. Michael Brazell in an intimate ceremony on the banks of Bayou Desiard in Monroe, Louisiana on Saturday, October 13, 2007.  The bride was ravishing in her traditional white cathedral gown and veil.  MPA attempted to persuade her to wear her national crown as a headpiece but was unsuccessful.  We'll be sure to display an official photo of the couple after they come in!

MPA Lifetime Wins Big on ABC's "Set For Life"!

Donning her crown, Chenese Lewis won $69,000 in prize money!  Congratulations Chenese and thank you for your continued commitment to MPA!

Our darling Miss Plus America Lifetime was chosen to compete in ABC's new game show, "Set For Life" hosted by Jimmy Kimmel!  She appeared on the debut episode, July 20th and didn't get to finish her game.  She will be appearing once more on Monday, July 30th!  Tune in to see Chenese play in the Miss Plus America crown and stay tuned to see if she went home with nothing or if she is "Set For Life"!  Chenese has also been appearing as a cast member for "Hell Date" a blind-dating show on BET.  Check your local listings for more information!
